Salladhor, a native from Lys, wasn’t just a dangerous pirate; he also served as a sellsail. He commanded a fleet of thirty ships, making him a viable prospect for mercenary work depending on the reward. The pirate was known to target ships sailing between Westeros and the Free Cities on the search for gold and wealth. In Game of Thrones season 2, Davos approached Salladhor to help with Stannis’ cause to take King’s Landing. Salladhor was also promised riches and fame but he truly had his sights set on Cersei Lannister. Despite a reluctant sense of trust for one another, Salladhor agreed to join Stannis’ forces.Watch GOT HD QUALITY on HBO NOW in 1 month for FREE!
Following the Battle of Blackwater, Salladhor called off his fleet and abandoned his promise to help Stannis. He still offered Davos help after rescuing him out at sea but Salladhor refused to take the man to Dragonstone. Davos later ran into Salladhor in Braavos during Game of Thrones season 4. He and Stannis managed to get funds from the Iron Bank and convinced Salladhor that he owed them his services. Before interjecting, Davos threw a bag of gold at Salladhor to sail the group to Castle Black. Salladhor didn’t appear in the series again and his fate was left unknown.
There were many theories from viewers who believed Salladhor would reappear in later seasons of Game of Thrones. Being a pirate and a sellsail gave the series several opportunities to bring him back. He could have encountered Yara or Euron Greyjoy‘s fleet or Davos could have met with his old acquaintance to help with Daenerys Targaryen’s fight for the Iron Throne. Considering the actor was deemed a guest star in his three episodes of appearance, the character was likely not a priority despite having an appealing sense of charisma.
It’s difficult to predict what happened to Salladhor in Game of Thrones but he probably went back to piracy after sailing Stannis and his group to Castle Black. Since he wasn’t integral to the key plots, the series didn’t feel a need to bring him back. In the books by George R.R. Martin, which the show was based, Salladhor took Stannis to Castle Black but left the area after becoming frustrated by waiting on the payment for his services. He agreed to deliver Davos to another location and then returned to being a ruthless pirate. Since Martin’s series hasn’t ended, there’s still a chance Salladhor will return in some fashion.
